Mid-summer of 2020, I decided that the most revolutionary thing a black person can do in this country is live a long and happy life. This album is a protest album, not because of its themes or the events that inspired it, but because during a time when the world wanted to make people like me cry and dismay, this art made me happy. It took me a long time, but now I understand that every smile on a black person's face is a revolution.
